As of today (February 7th, that is) L’Occitane’s first ‘Gourmand Aromatic’ fragrance: Terre de Lumiere is on shelves in-store and waiting to be spritzed.
For those not au fait with such fragrance jargon (aka me!), gourmand aromatic fragrances are essentially those with edible scents – vanilla, tonka bean and so on. Now I may not be the best at describing the old olfactory pyramid with it’s top notes and base components and what not, BUT where food is involved my sense of smell is top notch, and so I’ve loads to say about this lil perfume!
Inspired by the Golden Hour (love!) in the fields of Provence (also love!), three exceptional ladies (LOVE!) captured the essence in a fragrance like no other.
With head notes of bergamot, ambrette seed and pink pepper; heart notes of lavender honey and base notes of acacia flower, almond, tonka bean and white musk; it is literally the whole nine yards. Zesty, musky, sweet, warm, masculine, floral, fresh – it’s everything and anything and changes hourly when worn. My advice?! Hot foot it down to your nearest and dearest L’Occitane counter and inhale and detect what you will.
Fragrance is such a personal preference (there’s a seat for every ass as they say), and so I’m not quite sure how reading about a perfume helps you find your signature scent as opposed to smelling, BUT if you’re into comparisons Terre de Lumiere is apparently similar to Dior’s Eau Svelte, and Guerlain Le Bolshoi Black Swan. Neither of which I’m familiar with, but there you go.
I adore the perfume bottle design – it’s elegant and inviting, and on par with Provence’s luxury of simplicity embodiment. Suits you sir. Price point wise we’re talking €65/50ml, €89/90ml for the Eau de Parfum; €18.50 for the 250ml Gentle Shower Gel, and €27 for the 250ml Beautifying Body Lotion (divine). Like all L’Occitane fragrances, this one has serious staying power, with one lil spritz lasting for hours.
I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on this one if you’ve tried it as I can see it being marmite. Personally I’ve enjoyed trying it out for the past week but it’s just a tad too sweet to replace my every day scent (I’ve been swimming in Arlesienne since Christmas which is right up my floral street). How and ever in saying that I’d happily bathe in the Terre de Lumiere Body Lotion forever more – it’s a beauty!
Will Terre de Lumiere make your Valentine’s Wish List? Do people have Valentine’s Wish Lists – is that a thing?! If so can I have one please?!
