I’m highly skeptical of alternative therapies, perhaps due to their consistently shite results – and I’ve tried them all. It was only a few mere weeks ago myself and two of my friends almost died from laughter after a bizarre experience with a Russian ‘Healer’… Think reiki-meets-fortune-teller-come-masseuse. #Awks.
I’m forever intrigued by how different stuff affects the body, whether it’s western medicine, natural remedies or healers of the Namaste variety. I tend to rely on what I know works (pharmaceutics), but every now and again I stumble across a little beauty from the other side. The ‘This Works’s Deep Sleep Pillow Spray’ is one such gem. I love aromatherapy, in that I love beautiful aromas (who doesn’t!), and this little beauty is the fairest of them all.
I’ve always been plagued with an inability to switch off once my head hits the pillow. As soon as the light is switched off, my thoughts switch on and I’m suddenly consumed with the overwhelming pressure to play out every possible outcome of every possible scenario my future has to hold. Insomnia and anxiety are never easy, and unfortunately often come paired. The last year or two have been particularly stressful for me, with lots of unexpected twists and turns. But such is life and if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain, as Dolly P would say.
My anxiety levels are often sky high, and this is where this little spray comes out to play. I’m a huge fan of the ‘This Works’ brand in general; whilst pricey their products are always effective (and they use only natural ingredients which is always a bonus). Just don’t expect miracles – it ain’t no tranquilliser – but it’s genuinely effective as an ‘anxiety spray’ of sorts. Infused with Lavender, Camomile and Vetivert essential oils, I find it genuinely calms me down to more humane levels.
I pretty much used this as a perfume all winter, keeping it in my bag and spraying my scarf, sleeves and whatever else I felt like with it any time I felt a twinge of nervous energy rear it’s ugly head. Instantly you’re transported to a tranquil spa, instantly my mind is calmer and less anxious. It smells AMAZING, so no need to worry about smelling like a tree hugger!
As a sleep-inducing remedy, I can’t say I’m sold – (although their reviews boast 82% effective rates, so it obviously does help the majority). I do still use it nightly as a pillow spray regardless, as I adore it’s ability to transform a bedroom into a spa. As an anxiety remedy, I’m strung out on it (!) – I prefer it to the likes of Rescue Remedy Drops and the likes. It has become such a part of my day to day routine now that I can’t see myself ever not having a bottle to hand!
