So it’s looking like March will be the new January, no? What a pretty lil month February was though – the stretch etc etc. For me this February has been all about taking it easy (no change there tbh!), but – how quickly it has come and gone…
At the start of the month, sheer exhaustion had me all fainting and sh*t – resulting in one battered Mama. I blame pharmacy and my (short-lived) return to it’s dispensary. Anyway, my self imposed prescription was to take all the baths in the world to heal myself (and one violently disgusting broken toe. Sorry.) Into said baths went my stash of Modern Botany Oil; an Irish-made natural blend of chamomile, calendula, flax and arnica oils. I’ve since fallen a bit in love with the stuff – it’s simple, effective and can be used in a number of ways, including as a baby massage oil for my little Sweet Pea.
In keeping with the whole essential oils feels, I’ve also been burning lavender oil throughout my home like no tomorrow. Now, normally I’m all ‘Treat Yoself’ and lighting ridiculously overpriced candles whilst home alone on an irrelevant Tuesday morning. Now that I’m on the breadline however, I’ve had to check myself. Essential oil burning it is. And to be honest, they’re actually far more potent than your average high-end bougie. Lavender and eucalyptus are my go-to, for those spa vibes. (Spa vibes with a side of babbling baby drool, but you know what I mean).
The soundtrack to my days at home of recent has been that of La La Land, as Pearl is its biggest fan. And anything that provides a break from head wrecking Jumparoo sound effects gets a hall pass from me. PLUS I like to think it’s step one on the ladder leading her to jazz superstardom.
I’ve been living under a self-imposed spending ban for the past month, and subsequently have been window-shopping vicariously through Simone Scribes‘s insta-story hauls. If you don’t follow her, you should. Simone is a Galway girl living in Dubai, and has fabulous, wearable taste. You should also follow me too whilst you’re at it, obvz.
But back to the beauty. I stocked up on some Maybelline bits in January, and have been using them on the daily since. Specifically, the Instant Age Rewind Concealer in the shade Brightener/Illuminator. This is deserving of ALL of it’s hype. It’s the DREAM at camouflaging dark circles – the literal dream! I’ve had other shades of this concealer lying around my stash for years and they’re irrelevant. Don’t ask me why this one perfect shade is available in America only – but if you’re heading Stateside, add it to your list.
I’m also partial to Maybelline’s Fit Me Dewy & Smooth foundation at the moment, which hasn’t hit Irish shores just yet either. It’s not without it’s flaws – the packaging is in dire need of a pump for starters BUT if you’re after a luminous, buildable coverage that doesn’t weigh your skin down (or your wallet) then it’s well worth a nose.
Another much-hyped product I’ve succumbed to is the Kat Von D Tattoo Eye Liner, a brand which has recently hit Irish shores via Debenhams. And I love it – it’s easy to use, long-lasting, doesn’t run and the fine tip makes for application precision. I’ve been warned it dries out pretty quickly though, just to warn y’all.
As for skincare, I’ve fallen in love with my Flawless in 15 Lip Serum. This honey and gold serum is supposed to plump your pout – now I can’t say I’ve noticed TOO much difference there BUT as a lip treatment it’s gorge. I’ve been reaching for this above all else – it’s super conditioning without feeling heavy and has the added bonus of anti-aging properties which isn’t the norm for a lip product.
I’ve also been slathering myself (after those healing baths!) in L’Occitane’s Terre de Lumiere Beautifying Body Lotion, which genuinely put a spring in my step when used. As you’d expect from all things L’Occitane, it’s perfection in a bottle – smelling INCREDIBLE and leaving your skin feeling silky smooth. The Terre de Lumiere fragrance itself I’ve devoted a blogpost to here, and, as an added bonus the body lotion has a subtle iridescent sheen to it which is never a bad thing.
And as for my final February favourite, well it has to be this Anthropologie necklace which has adorned my neck since it’s purchase, and with which I’m highly obsessed!
March to it, ladies! xo
