My everlasting love for du vin is now officially irrevocable, post one fabulous day-trip to Chateau de Bellet… Oh mon Dieu, this vineyard is gorj!
After a brief bus-ride away from the centre of Nice (along with a somewhat torturous but thankfully short hike) – I hit the vines of Chateau de Bellet for an afternoon last week. The location?! Stunning. Acres of grapevines surround a stunningly beautiful historic chapel. Perched on one of the highest slopes in Bellet, the opportunity to drink prestigious wine here alone is worth the trip.
The blasphemy, the sacrilege…. Only in France can a quaint church be accessorised with copious cases of wine and still look chic. Hallelujah. We were ready to find God – ‘We’ being myself and one of BFFs Liz, avec our plus ones.
After being welcomed to the chateau, we were given the opportunity to roam the vines alone, along with a map outlining the terrine and grape varieties. FYI this is an absolute variety at a vineyard, as the majority of properties don’t have vineyards on site.
After working up a thirst, some wine was in order.
We chose four wines to sample, and subsequently learned various tidbits on each… None of which I now recall to be honest, but most of which involved the ratios of various types of grape per glass! What I can recall is that each glass was delish, with the exception perhaps of the first, a vin blanc which was more graaand than bien.
We sat in the sunshine savouring both the wine and the panoramic views. Sipping wine al fresco in the sun with your friends, sure what more do ya need? Maybe some expensive bottles of wine from the vineyard as souvenirs?! But of course – except these souvenirs were to be popped open literally as soon as we reached our hotel upon departure of the Chateau. Obv!
Yes… The whole experience was an incredible €10.00 per person. Insane! If you find yourself in the South of France area, this wine tour is a must! 🍇🍷
