So with the new year comes the inevitable Hashtag FitFam bandwagon – of which I’m more than happy to completely avoid… Is the paint dry?!
How and ever my trusty (but V. dusty) Nutribullet Ninja has recently regained some kitchen counter space after a lengthy spell in(cupboard)doors…
Before Christmas I was very kindly sent some ‘Superfood’ nutritional powders from an organic health food company based in Glastonbury called Indigo Herbs (*Not sponsored though fo’yo’info’). Whilst the powders swiftly remained unopened until after the festivities, I’ve been dabbling with ’em over the past week or two… And TBH I’m loving their effects.
Normally I’m not one for blending powdered calories into liquids, #HellzNaw – No, I love my actual grub far too much… And subsequently, protein shakes rarely appeal. I’ve tried a few different brands in recent years and as a (broad) statement, they’re all very synthetic and vile tasting in my opinion. However, (perhaps due it being 100% chia seed as opposed to whey) I’m actually all about the ‘Superprotein Powder’ at the moment.
Let’s call a spade a spade – green juices are pretty rancid, what with them being raw vegetables smushed up and all. And so I’ve yet to get back into ‘juicing’ in 2016 (just can’t face it right now yolo), but I’ve been easing my blender back to life with fruity varieties as opposed to veg. Baby steps. And frankly they’re divine!
Thanks to the carb police of the last decade, I’m quite aware of the high fructose content and empty calories in fruit juices/smoothies. But by adding nutritional supplements such as protein powder/blended greens/energy powder, you’re essentially upping the ante and amplifying all the goodness of said fruit yet converting it into a more filling/slower energy releasing kind of vibe.
PLUS I’ve been adding a teaspoonful of the ‘Supervital Powder’ (100% Organic Acai Powder and Baobab) to every blend to strengthen the old immune system – This particular mix is V. potent in Vitamin C, antioxidants and electrolytes.
This morning’s smoothie blend:
- Half a banana
- 100g Unsweetened Natural Greek Yogurt
- A handful of frozen raspberries
- One teaspoon of Superprotein Powder
- One teaspoon of Supervital Powder
- Handful of ice
- Small glass of water
Blend, blend blend and voila! One gorge, tasty, nutritional smoothie.
(So tasty, tasty Mark couldn’t wait to sample before I snapped it – Soz!)
